About Arthritis

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Arthritis means inflammation of joints and its most common form is osteoarthritis. This disease is often referred as the condition of the elderly and it is true that the percentage of patients increases sharply with age.

There are more men achieved before the age of 45 years and beyond that age instead found more women. In North America millions of people suffering from these diseases and almost 80% of people over age 50 are affected in one form or another.

The body parts most often affected are the hands and joints have to bear more weight, such as knees, hips and spine. (more…)

Sleep & Plants

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

To help you fall asleep, first try the herbal and homeopathic remedies. They have the advantage of being natural and present no risk of addiction.

What products can you help?

- Infusions verbena, orange blossom, chamomile, linden (in small doses, because the lime can be an exciting if you eat too much);

- Plant capsules: valerian, hawthorn, escholizia;

- Homeopathy: Gelsemium, Ignatia, Coffea, Kalium Phosphoricum, acting on anxiety and can help overcome insomnia;

- Sleeping pills have specific indications, and they must be used for a limited time only on prescription.

In sleep disorders, sleeping pills are employed particularly when insomnia is secondary to recent external events (emotional shock, conflict, stress).

The hypnotic treatment should be short (one to three weeks) and, if insomnia persists, it is preferable to move towards a non-drug treatment (sleep hygiene, relaxation, behavior therapy or psychotherapy).

The psychiatric disorders cause sleep very frequent, especially during acute (depression, mania, delirium). These disorders subside with treatment of the disease.

The surgical and medical conditions cause insomnia. These can be persistent, particularly when operations are painful. The treatment of the condition is again preferable to remedies hypnotics.

When changes in work schedules and travel across, hypnotics can induce sleep at the appropriate times.

Ear hygiene

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Eardrums, complex and fragile elements essential to a proper hearing, are separated from external attacks by 3 cm ear. This bony canal, it is lined with a mucous membrane endowed with unique protective functions in the body is too sensitive, hence the importance of hygiene perfectly suited.
The ears daily

Our ear is self cleaning.

The wax, natural wax that it produces continuously to protect against dust and germs outside but also lubricate the ear drum, runs itself to the outside after having fulfilled its protective role.

A gentle cleansing and regular flag and the entrance of the ear canal is necessary, however.

But be careful not to go too high. You would only push the wax, potentially causing traffic jams, but also irritate the mucosa, or even damage the eardrum.

After placing your cotton swab at the entrance of the duct, it does not penetrate more than 1 cm, just make a few turns upward.
You are afraid of hurting you

For added security, you can use sticks or specific baby more elaborate (Otospoon of Quies). These models have been designed so that you can not make them penetrate too deeply.

The elderly or unsafe for their actions may use cleaning sprays without propellant instead of sticks (Docuspray of Quies, Audispray of Diepharmex). These sprayers are easier to take control and be effective without the risk of trauma to the eardrum.
You often go to the pool

The repeated swimming alter the physiology of the mucosal lining of your ear and can foster external otitis. A few drops of Quietyl ® (laboratory BIORL) will facilitate the shift of water and its disposal while balancing the local flora.
You wear a hearing aid

These facilities are often irritating to the skin. Better, then, as a precautionary step and adopt specific hygiene products (Cerudyl of BIORL, Doculyse of Quies).
When to call an ENT?

A temporary hearing loss or tinnitus may be due to the presence of a plug of earwax.

According to its location and its size, your doctor will remove it himself or refer you to an ENT.

The gesture, painless, takes only minutes. After instilling the ear drops or warm water in your ear canal, the dentist will remove the cap through a micro-gripper or a vacuum system, with the aid of a microscope consultation for greater accuracy.

Let’s discuss how to reduce belly fat

The prostate cancer

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Cancer of the prostate in the cells of the prostate gland of the male reproductive tract. The prostate is mainly used to secrete some of the liquid (seminal) which, combined with sperm from the testicles, sperm shape. The prostate cancer is the leading cancer threat to men in North America.

Risk factors:

Age – over 80% of prostate cancers are diagnosed in men over 65 years
Family history – having a father or brother with prostate cancer increases the risk of double
Race – black men are more likely to develop cancer of the prostate
Geography – prostate cancer is rare in Asia, Africa and South America

Body weight, physical inactivity – the obese and inactive men are affected by higher rates of prostate cancer.

Diet may be a crucial factor in prostate cancer

The fact that black men in Africa are much less frequently affected by prostate cancer than men of black Americans to believe that diet and lifestyle play a role in the etiology of the disease. Research has shown a relationship between diets high in fat and prostate cancer. According to some experts, inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables is concerned, the men whose diet is rich in fat are more often affected by cancer because they eat fewer vegetables. Besides fat, a high intake of dietary calcium, from milk products, has been linked to prostate cancer.

Symptoms

In general, prostate cancer tumors are small and produce no symptoms. Therefore, most of these tumors are detected only by blood or by surgical motivated by benign prostate, whose symptoms are often marked.

The large tumors, advanced, putting pressure on other organs, the bladder, causing incontinence or making urination difficult or painful. These tumors affect the nerves that cause erection, causing impotence. In the advanced stage tumors may also exert pressure on the spine or pelvis, causing pain. Some people feel pain or burning sensation when urinating or pain when ejaculating. Sometimes the urine or semen contains blood. Some men complain of pain or stiffness in lower back, hips or upper thighs.

Controversy over the usefulness of screening for prostate cancer

Currently, there are two detection techniques: examination of the prostate by digital rectal examination and testing of PSA.

* An examination of the prostate by digital rectal examination by a physician is the easiest, but least effective in detecting cancer of the prostate. Used alone, it can miss almost 50% of cancers.
* The test of PSA requires a blood test. It is to assess the level of presence in the blood of prostate specific antigen (PSA), a glycoprotein secreted by the prostate only with a level higher or lower may indicate a cancerous activity. The PSA test is a screening technique that has its limits. The combination of PSA and digital rectal examination is a screening tool more effective than PSA alone. This combination identifies 87% of prostate cancers. The probability of a man whose PSA and DRE are normal to have a prostate cancer is very low, about 0.5% to 1%.

Currently, there is controversy about the real benefits of using this test to detect prostate cancer in men who have no signs of cancer.
Even if the test shows an abnormally high PSA or a DRE is abnormal, this does not necessarily mean there is cancer. In fact, approximately 80% of those with one of the two tests is abnormal will not have prostate cancer. However, if the PSA level is high or if both tests are abnormal, the probability that found cancer is 50% or more.

To establish the diagnosis with more certainty, we must then take another step and use a third technique: the biopsy. The prostate biopsy involves inserting a needle into the prostate through the anterior wall of the rectum to remove a small piece of prostate tissue to be subjected to microscopic examination. The biopsy is a test that has some discomfort in humans. It is, however, without anesthesia, without hospitalization and with a very low percentage of complications.

The College of Physicians of Quebec and the Urological Association of Quebec do not recommend making the PSA test routinely as part of a health check without prior discussion with the patient the benefits and disadvantages screening using the PSA test in combination with digital rectal examination.

Before undergoing a PSA test for screening, a man should have a life expectancy of ten years and more, be informed of the advantages and disadvantages of the test and be prepared to undergo a prostate biopsy if the PSA or abnormal digital rectal examination proved. It should also be prepared to cope with uncertainties in choosing the best treatment if we discovered a prostate cancer after biopsy, particularly if the tumor was low grade.

Treatment

Compared to most other cancers, prostate tumors develop slowly and not so aggressive. They also tend to appear later in life. Smaller tumors, particularly among older men, are not made, and the strategy is to wait and monitor the tumor. The doctor conducts regular tests to make sure the tumor does not grow faster than expected.

* When the cancer has invaded other structures that the prostate should be administered cancer drugs and analgesics.
* When the cancer is still confined to the prostate, we resorted to surgery. The classic response is radical prostatectomy, ie d. total removal of the prostate.
* Sometimes the cancerous tissue is destroyed using a probe cold (cryosurgery) which freezes the tissue. This technique can also cause impotence. This intervention is relatively recent, and it is unclear if long-term effectiveness is as favorable as that of radical prostatectomy.
* Radiation therapy also aims to destroy the cancerous tissue. This treatment modality leads to a higher risk of impotence and incontinence.
* Hormone therapy aims to reduce levels of male hormones (or androgens), particularly testosterone. Prostate cancer cells require androgens to grow. The hormone also helps to reduce prostate size. This method does not cure cancer but can be used before surgery.

We mentioned the controversy in the medical world about the value and desirability of the practice tests. There is also controversy, much less publicized, when the value and usefulness of treatments available to fight against cancer of the prostate.

Other options

Let the opinion of 2 famous American physicians, Dr. William Campbell Douglas MD and Dr. Julian Whitaker MD

For both physicians, the current conventional treatments against cancer of the prostate will one day be regarded as barbarians. They believe that the risk of side effects to treatment are too high compared to the results obtained. In the vast majority of cases of prostate cancer develops very slowly. They share the view of many doctors, that most men with prostate cancer die with their prostate cancer, but not because of him.

They advocate the use of natural methods of treatment effective in prevention but also treatment:

A change in lifestyle is of course essential. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables. Reduce consumption of red meat and saturated fats and increase good fats, especially omega-3 found in fish.

The regular light exercise and relaxation technique (fatigue and stress are contributing factors in cancer cases).

They particularly recommend:

* Saw Palmetto (see this plant in our herbarium) “zinc 10 to 50 mg daily) and selenium (200 mcg per day) Brazil nuts
* Pumpkin seeds
* Daily consumption of foods rich in lycopene (cooked tomatoes, watermelon or watermelon, grapefruit)
* Regular consumption of fish such as salmon, herring, sardines, tuna, rich in fatty acids of type
Omega-3
* Vitamin D (from 1000 to 2000 IU per day)
* Pomegranate juice (250 ml daily)
* Linseed freshly ground, ½ cup per day. Several studies in the United States and Germany showed a marked decrease in proliferation of cancer cells in men who add 30 grams of ground flaxseed to their daily diet.

Dr. William Campbell MD also recommends a supplement of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). It refers to an animal study published in Anticancer Research. This study demonstrated that CLA reduced by 90% the progression of prostate cancer induced in one group of mice. The recommended dosage is 3 x 1.000mg daily.

Of course if we are in the presence of prostate cancer advanced etsSi of tumor cells are released into the bloodstream, they can migrate to other parts of the body and begin to divide form new tumors. This migration is called metastasis. The new tumors are called metastases. This advanced stage of prostate cancer need to follow other specific treatments for this condition should be decided with the doctor.

In the presence of a diagnosis of prostate cancer it is very important to analyze all options, their therapeutic potential, as well as any consequences thereof.

Overweight: What if it was the parasites?

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Millions of Westerners suffer from parasitic without being aware

A study by the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene shows that in a sample of 2896 persons, representative of the national population, 32% of subjects had a positive test for parasites.
When we know that parasites are life forms with their own intelligence and their survival depends on not being identified. One can imagine that the percentage of the population have parasites may be much larger.

What is a parasite?
A parasite is an organism that lives at the expense of another organism and insidiously eats his depends. That means it draws on reserves of energy from its host and causes more damage ranging from poisoning to the destruction of the body that hosts it. In most cases it can live for years in an organization without his presence is never suspected.

How are they transmitted?
The modes of transmission of parasites are innumerable. To mention only the most common food both animal and vegetarian: too little meat cooked fish, especially sushi, fruit and vegetables (even organic, can come from contaminated soil, where they may be contaminated during transport or handling), water, pets, sand, biting insects, etc..

Action of parasites in the body
According to Dr. Elson Haas, MD Director of California’s Preventive Medical Center of Marin, parasites are responsible for inflammation of the lining of the digestive system, which has the effect of disrupting the absorption of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and other nutrients necessary to ensure proper functioning hormonal balance in glucose metabolism.

Parasites acidify the body and to defend the body begins to turn to produce more acid in the fat cells and slowing metabolism. According to researcher Robert O. Dr. Young, this makes weight loss almost impossible.

Dr. Dean, MD, ND adds that the parasite produces catalytic indoles, and other toxins, strongly requesting the liver and kidneys. These bodies end up being rapidly depleted and this leads to the person with a feeling of fatigue, irritability and weight gain.

Understanding the immune system, this marvel of nature

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

The immune system is a complex network of cells and organs that produce agents very powerful defenses during a pathogen attack. How does it and does it really intervene in its operation to protect us from disease? We suggest periodically, especially during epidemics, strengthen or stimulate it, but do we really know what the immune system and how it works?

Innate immune system

The immune system consists mainly of a set of cells and proteins that act to protect the body against infectious microorganisms, potentially harmful, such as bacteria, viruses or fungi and plays a role in defense against cancer cells.

The first line of defense of the body begins with the skin. This is an impenetrable barrier for the vast majority of infectious agents, most of which can enter the body through mucous membranes such as mouth, nose, eyes, genitals. These areas are however protected by the movement of mucus, enzymes and other biological fluids.

This first line of defense is part of what is called the innate immune system, which also includes the second line of defense is the inflammatory response and action of white blood phagocytes. Some chemicals known supplements, which are proteins active attacking bacteria and interferon that possesses antiviral properties, are other defenses.

These are called non-specific defenses and their action is rapid.

Adaptive immune system

This system, very complex attack specifically targeted individuals and aggressors. Its function is to build defenses against a range of microorganisms aggressors or cancerous cells (tumor).

The system must first recognize the microorganism or cancer cell as an antigen or external aggressor. It occurs when a cellular or humoral response against the antigen. The humoral response develops soluble proteins, antibodies or immunoglobulins produced by B lymphocytes The cellular action is around the activity of T lymphocytes

The immune system is present throughout the body, but it is estimated that nearly 80% is located in the intestinal flora. Hence we understand the importance of maintaining a complete bacterial flora in proper balance and health.

It was long assumed that the immune system was an independent system, but now we have shown that it is intimately connected to other systems, such as the nervous system and endocrine system. For example, white blood cells have receptors for the neurotransmitter produced by the brain. We have also found specific receptors for certain hormones and certain white blood cells can even produce and secrete hormones that communicate directly with the hormonal system.

Practically, how it works there?

Before any aggression, there are two main phases of reactions. First, an activation of the emergency mechanism, with means non-specific, that is to say the same regardless of the situation. Meanwhile qu’intervienne the second phase with specific agents such as antibodies adapted to the nature of the aggressor, the body releases properdin, bactericidal substance and catalase, an enzyme involved both defensive against pathogens that during a conflict between bacteria or between bacteria and body cells.

Regardless of these extreme measures we have at our disposal at all times, means always alert, including certain hormones, elements of lymph, and most secret, bactericides: saliva, digestive juices, sweat, tears, urine , bile glutathione with her, etc.. Of course, in the arsenal of first-line defense, do not forget the fever, which is most remarkable agent defense, and most neglected, since the first medical procedure is to intervene to artificially lower it. We interrupt this way oxidation, neutralization of waste, pathogens and viruses.

The second phase sees the defense response of specific antibodies, developed during the course of the initial phase.

This second phase is longer and is generally 4 to 10 days (sometimes longer) to complete. It is the final phase of the disease, while the first phase is the period during which symptoms are most obvious. These symptoms are not disease, but the events of the action of the immune system, which is at work.

So what is the disease?

We do not fall sick because the normal functions of defense is left to chance, but because we did not properly maintain our bodies. To effectively organize his defense we need to restore the facilities and help with those that nature puts at our disposal.

We must banish fear, out of our thoughts. We know that a body is not overloaded with toxins can defend themselves better than another, its defenses are intact and his responses are quick and effective.

Why the current official medicine can she find the secret of true health? Because his research is oriented in one direction of destruction, and not that of restoring a normal environment, providing balance and natural protection.

Understandably, the body is perfectly equipped to deal with external aggression.

The real evil is not what we call “disease”, this state indicates an effort by the body to get rid of barriers affecting the proper balance of functions. The disease is not a lack of health, but the refusal of acceptance by the organization, an anomalous situation and the translation of an effort to restore the disturbed equilibrium. Professor Bouchard, famous in the 19th century, wrote: “Disease is the set of actions that should lead to a cure.”

Understand by this that the symptoms not the disease, but the effort of the body to fight against an aggressor agent or an imbalance in its operation.

A strong organization must react against any violation of natural laws whenever it is placed under abnormal conditions.

Vaccination

The purpose of this column is not vaccination, but it is difficult not to mention briefly. Indeed, vaccine-called modern science, cleverly thought involved in the immune process. The idea of vaccination is to promote the reaction rate by making it “know” in advance a possible abuser profile, for it makes antibodies against it and can proceed to the second phase defense from the beginning of the aggression.

In reality, the agency specializes in protection against germs which only one sample has been injected. The result is that the human being defended increasingly poorly against other attacks and is increasingly fragile. Any new vaccine is a weakened further and an endless path.

The aggressor is always changing, calling for new vaccines and this vicious cycle leads to an immune system ultimately less effective, being part of a body increasingly devitalized and contaminated by vaccines.

And let us remember that the vaccine does not “protect” protection if it is really only for a few months at best, while a naturally acquired immunity, is for life.

Regain confidence in our immune system

The research shows us, the immune system is intimately connected to other body systems. It is therefore essential to follow a lifestyle that preserves the quality of the “field”, that is to say that maintains health and harmony in all physical and mental. Let us trust in our immune system, it is best able and equipped to ensure our defenses. Without directly involved in its operation, as the vaccination, it is possible to support it through our body at rest, avoiding abrupt cut some symptoms such as fever, which are other than part of its action and being confident in its efficacy (having a positive attitude and without fear) and providing certain foods, certain plants, which nourish and stimulate to work effectively. When a plant lowers the temperature and causes sweating, it is in perfect harmony and symbiosis with the immune system.

That’s how he should behave to face an assault on our health.

Join family and friends of my natural health and receive free, plus many other gifts and benefits, special guide to the flu. This guide contains numerous tips for promoting the work of the immune system.

Iron: its role

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Iron is essential for the synthesis of hemoglobin and other organic molecules such as myoglobin (muscle). Contributions by food should be 2 to 4 milligrams per day to compensate for losses (sweat, urine, feces, menstruation).

Iron deficiency is responsible for anemia, called anemia. The normal level of iron in the blood is 0.6 to 1.9 mg / l, e 1.1 and 2 mg / l in infants.

Iron blood increases when hemochromatosis, hepatitis, cirrhosis, and decreases in anemia, malabsorption, hemorrhage, vegetarian diet.

Ferritin

Ferritin is a protein circulating in blood, associated with iron molecules. The ferritin is significant reserves of iron in the body, and its determination allows early detection of deficiency or iron overload.

The normal level of ferritin is 30 to 60 mg / l in men and from 20 to 150 mg / l in women.

The ferritin decreased during pregnancy.

Obesity: medical and surgical treatments

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Medical treatment is to find and treat any and rare medical causes of obesity, such as a malfunction of the endocrine glands (thyroid, adrenal glands).

Traditional treatments of obesity, now banned, associated with diuretics, amphetamines (diet pills) and thyroid hormones, which are both ineffective and dangerous.

Today, several medicines are available to help fight obesity. A large majority requires a prescription, because their effects on metabolism are not trivial. Some drugs work well on the intestinal enzymes, they inhibit. They reduce 30% of fat absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and is complementary diets. Dietary restriction is necessary, particularly fat, on pain of severe diarrhea.
Other drugs act on the satiety centers of the brain by a mechanism similar to that of amphetamines. Only specialists can prescribe these products.

Surgery is used only in cases of morbid obesity when body mass index (BMI) exceeds 35 or 40, and weight 130 or 150 kg. Bariatric surgery is most commonly performed is to remove part of the stomach, limiting food intake. The results are spectacular in the coming weeks, but this surgery must be accompanied by a strict diet. Psychological support is recommended. Finally in the months following the intervention of small cosmetic surgery may be required to remove folds of skin and abdominal fat deposits disappear easily.

Other interventions include installation of a temporary balloon in the stomach, which by its mere presence, cut hunger and forced to make smaller meals.

Some tips for healthy eating during pregnancy

Monday, January 11th, 2010

I am six months pregnant and I confess that I eat more than ever. And not only hunger, there is also a little anxiety in the subject, and why not, a little flexibility now that I must not treat my belt each month.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy

But, as we have commented on other occasions, this is not a matter of adding up pounds for each month of pregnancy so it is too fat we can put at risk our health. To know that we must follow a type of diet during pregnancy, we must take into account some data.

From the second half of pregnancy you need them between 250-300 extra calories to provide energy for the body, paying attention to the type of nutrients. It is as though it increases a small portion of food it is possible to fulfill these requests. Simply increasing the quantity of milk and cereal, and not in great quantity. This may be 1 curd, 1 cup of skim milk and 4 fingers of bread. Each of these foods makes a little over 300 calories. Once, if you want to maintain a healthy weight you forget (to our chagrin) to eat two!

Something that really helps is to eat between 5 and 6 for daily food and ingest less food by food and then not to overload the stomach. In this way we feel most gratified day without eating.

Also as in every moment of life, during pregnancy it is important to follow a balanced diet. The large difference in diet during pregnancy is that it must be careful to ingest diets rich in dairy products, cereals, vegetables and foods with carbohydrates.
