If your dentist has told you have gum disease, you are not alone. Currently, about 80% of adults in America suffer from some form of this disease.

Periodontal disease can range from simple gum inflammation or gingivitis to a serious disease that can damage the soft tissues and bone that support the teeth. In severe cases, teeth fall out. Typically the disease occurs when plaque builds up along and below the gums.

Gum disease is a threat to your oral health. Research indicates that the effects of the disease could spread far beyond the mouth (we’ll explain that later). If the disease is stopped, stop advancing or worse will depend largely on how well you care for teeth and gums every day since receiving the diagnosis.
