The eye infections are common. While some are benign, such as conjunctivitis, but others may cause complications. But ophthalmologists now have many drugs to tackle these diseases.

Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is a very trivial disease, which is an infection of the transparent membrane, the conjunctiva, which covers the inside of the eyelids and covers part of the eyeball. It is usually caused by a virus (adenovirus) or bacteria (staphylococcus, streptococcus, pneumococcus, Haemophilus). But there are also allergic conjunctivitis.

Conjunctivitis is suspected when:

    * The eye becomes red and causes a sensation of itching;
* And that secretions more or less the thick cover which can make opening difficult morning awakening.

Most frequently, including viral conjunctivitis are not serious and disappear within a few days, but they tend to bilateralize. Therefore, it will preferably use eye drops per eye. Beware, this is a highly contagious infection. Also, avoid rubbing the affected eye, wash your hands often and do not leave the gauze used to clean as it could contaminate your environment. For similar reasons, it is advisable to use an old eye drops, because it may contain germs and determining the onset of conjunctivitis.

Styes and Chalazions

These bacterial diseases are also very common. In this case, the infection develops at the root or follicle of an eyelash when the appearance of a small red ball and swollen at the periphery of the eyeball. Generally, a staph is involved in as many boils and styes may develop in the eye. After collapse of the stye, healing is often itself and there is often nothing else to do but to apply an antibiotic ointment and warm compresses wet well clean the sty ripen. But if this is not the case, the ophthalmologist may open the stye.

Infections of the Cornea, or Keratitis

The other tissues of the eye as the cornea may also be subject to infections because this fibrous membrane transparent, located in front of the eye is particularly vulnerable. The keratitis may be viral (adenovirus, herpes virus, varicella zoster) or bacterial or fungal and then be promoted by wearing contact lenses.

They can cause the appearance of erosions or ulcers of the cornea, which will impair vision and make trouble. In most cases, the keratitis are unilateral and the infected eye is red, painful and sensitive to light.

Herpes zoster keratitis and Ophthalmic

Herpetic keratitis is treated by application or use of acyclovir, an antiviral drug, either orally or intravenously. Cons-It indicates the use of corticosteroid ointments, which could exacerbate the trend. One of its main problems is that it tends to recur and may require prolonged treatment course of acyclovir.

Ophthalmic zoster is a secondary eye infection by the varicella-zoster virus from the ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve. It involves inflammation of the cornea, which may be manifested by severe pain and may be associated with impairment of the uvea, retina and motor nerves of the eye, where the occurrence ocular paralysis.
Infections of other tissues of the eye

Moreover, sometimes the uvea, which consists of both the iris gives the eye color, blue or brown depending on the individual, the ciliary body which produce the aqueous humor and choroid, a vascular membrane, is also affected by the infectious process. Some viruses (cytomegalovirus) or parasites (toxoplasma) can also induce the appearance of infections of the retina, particularly in immunocompromised individuals and those affected by AIDS.
